Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas from our class!!!!

Who is teaching the class?

I decided to let the students teach English! They did a great job! They were so excited and they were all paying attention because they all wanted a turn! Ha, what a great way to get their attention and teach! I think I had 100% participation that day!

Shopping!

In our classroom we have a mini economy system. The students can earn money for different things such as good behavior, answering hard questions questions in class, participating in class, or for other various things. At the end of the grading period, they are allowed to shop at my classroom store. We did a lesson on spending and saving before I opened the store. I had items in my store that are really expensive and they have to save for them. It was neat to see who decided to spend and who spent every dollar they had. Parents I bet you can guess what your child did!

Math Rocks!

Here we are working in groups learning about multiplication. The kids are so excited to learn multiplication and enjoy working together to practice learning their math facts. It's is neat as a teacher, to see them grow up and learn how to multiply!

We Need Cans for the Rescue Mission!

Here are our Student Council Representatives decorating our box for the canned food drive. Please do not forget to bring in your cans for the Kokomo Rescue Mission!

Look what we grew!

These are our radish seeds, corn seeds, sunflower seeds and pinto beans that we grew in science class. We put them on a paper plate, watered them and put them in a plastic bag. We observed everyday to see which one would germinate first and kept a daily log of our observations. Ask your child which one germinated first!

Science Time

In science, we are learning all about plants. Today we used hand lenses to observe and compare radishes and grass. Be the first person to tell me what you observed and you will earn a prize!

Just Right Books!

Before we picked our books for our book report, I did a lesson on finding "Just Right Books". I compared a "just right" book to a shirt that fits perfectly. I then demonstrated an over sized shirt and a shirt that is too small and how they are not very comfortable to wear. I used that idea as an analogy for books that are easy or too challenging. The kids thought it was so cool when I hung the Colts jersey up on the board. It was fun for me as a teacher to see their excitement in their eyes! They were ready to learn and all set to pick their books. Don't forget to ask them how they are doing on their report.

Scarecrows

We are working hard on our scarecrows! We decided that a scarecrow's job would be really boring standing in a field all day. We thought it would be fun to pretend that we were the scarecrows and we left the field for the day. We wrote a paper telling about our fun journeys and all the great things we did. Then we decorated a scarecrow that looked just like us. We put a picture of our face on the scarecrow. It was a great way to write, learn and have fun at the same time!

Our Human Bodies!

We learned all about our bodies. We learned about our bones, muscles, heart, lungs, the nervous system, and our respiratory system. To put all the information we learned together we made life-size human bodies. We had so much fun tracing our bodies and putting all the body parts in the correct area.

Place Value Blocks

To help us learn addition with regrouping, we used place value blocks. Each child had to use the blocks to add problems such as; 153 + 159. Once they figured out the correct answer they had to practice their regrouping skill with the blocks.

Last week, Kidstuff from Oakbrook Church, came to do a program on individuality. Be the first person to tell me what you learned and you will get a prize!

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs Projects!

Look at all the wonderful creativity! I must say, I was amazed at all of the amazing projects. I am so proud of you! Who would have thought you could make so much fun stuff with healthy food. Who said learning can't be fun?

Delicious Healthy Snacks!

To go along with our Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs unit, we were learning about nutrition in health. Each student brought in a healthy snack to share. As we were eating out treats, we discussed nutrition and the food pyramid.

Tornado Time!

To go along with our Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs unit we made tornado's! Each student had a water bottle that was filled with water, vinegar, and soap. While we were making the tornado's we learned about measurement along with how tornado's look.
